The diagnosis of adult ADHD is dependent on the history of the patient of symptoms. The history should include an examination of the symptoms that are present as well as a clinical assessment of the patient's medical history and family history.

The aim of the clinical examination should be to determine whether there is an impairment. The CPT impairment index provides a measure for sensitivity. It is calculated by combining the Full Scale Attention Quotient and the Full Scale Respond Control.

Inattention and hyperactivity scores of more than 6 on the CPT are thought to be an indication of ADHD. In addition, a Qb-Score greater than 1.5 is suggested as the standard for a diagnosis of ADHD in healthy populations.

The study revealed that malingerers over compensate for their deficiencies. This is why they produced lower visual mean scores on both auditory and visual tasks. They were unable to fool the Auditory Prudence and Visual Focus tests.
