Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also increase bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will gain 3percent of its previous damage each time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item level increases.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must be at least upgraded to the blue level for a component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix that alters the name of the equipment to which it is used (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players create stronger versions with the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level using standard methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-tier version of an item will be revealed in the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their equipment even if they are unsure what will be improved after the reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it is likely that the item will eventually become obsolete or even break in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the risk of failure. Some upgrades also give a bonus if reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, including any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as possible to level 15.

In the endgame you'll often discover that the best way to improve your gear is to place Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and offer significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes faster.

Glyphs, which is the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced again are the most commonly used. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced with a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values it can improve a statistic by. The value is displayed when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Each level of item requires different components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item, and when enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item level upgrade.

When a player upgrades an item to a higher level, the original item is replaced by a new item of the same kind. This means that the same armor piece will get an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This could be a disadvantage in that the item could be more expensive even if you do not require it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to do this. The item will be replaced by a brand new one that has a level 1 basis and totally different bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, however it shouldn't be repeated often, as it can use up lots of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times, increasing their value and allows the player to modify their equipment.
