The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and equipment with new affixes, increasing the base stats of the item or adding additional perks. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Typically objects that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base while items with strong bases like Eth titans don't change much in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be slotted into trinkets, armor, weapons and gathering tools, providing an added bonus or effect while the equipment is being used. They can be purchased from vendors, found in loot from enemies, or gotten from chests or missions. Certain upgrades also have cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.

To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, the player must select it and click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. The screen will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade stats as well as the required component or materials.

There are three types of upgrade components including universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be placed on any type of equipment.
