Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and equipment with new affixes that boost the base stats of the item or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade process differs from previous versions in some fundamental ways. Gear is now classified into tracks, and each item can be upgraded a certain number of times before it is "leveled out."
