Upgrading gear increases its stats base and often boosts its extras. The value of these upgrades is determined by their tiers, requirements, and the amount of random enhancements used.

They can be bought from vendors, looted, or obtained through questing. They can also be traded between players. Upgrade components can be replaced with new ones, but doing so will destroy the previous upgrade, except for glyphs that can be replaced and removed at any time.

If you choose an upgrade component to slot into an item the game will display a pop-up window that shows the required requirements. The game will show the requirements required when you select an upgrade component to slot into an item.
