The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade their weapons and gear by adding new affixes that boost the base stats of the item upgrader kit or providing additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Upgrade components

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important differences from the previous versions. Gear is now classified into tracks and each item can be upgraded as many times before it is "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, but the materials needed do not.
