Upgrades to items are a frequent and essential way to boost the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Armor

Using more jewels in a movement will make it feel smoother and is typically performed to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. Jewels also enhance performance and make a harder surface than steel so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not damage them.

The first trinkets that a player unlocks will be the cloak, which gives a small, but valuable boost to movement speed and evasion. After that, they'll be able to acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in a similar fashion to how the player acquires weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and only work with certain trinkets.
