Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and PvE Damage.

For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into weapons, armor, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment with a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Leveling

The upgrade system for items allows players to boost the stats of specific items by inserting upgraded components. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385. Each level of item upgrade requires various components, and upgrade item costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. Once enough points are earned you will be able to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player it is replaced by a new item of the same type. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This could be a problem in that it could cause the item to become more expensive, even if you don't need it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens in order to do so.
