Upgrades to items allow players to increase an item Upgrader mod's gear score up to 700 and add a final perk. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory before heading to the kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats. (For example, a perfectly rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items like weapons don't really change after an upgrade and aren't worth it.

Weapons

Upgrades to weapons can boost their numerical stats, like attack damage, crit chance, and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons come with a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. A lot of weapons also come with a fixed bonus which is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a unit. In certain instances, this bonus can add up to more than the amount of damage that a weapon upgrades by itself.

A weapon's upgrade costs depend on the nature of the weapon as well as its current level. For example, an +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade a weapon will continue to rise until it requires the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the amount will be reset to one.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats it will gain upon upgrading along with the relative values of those stats. This means that a weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. The 3% doesn't mean that the weapon will strike 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button in the item upgrade menu with the circling arrows. This will reroll the item and alter its stats, however, it will not reset the weapon's level nor bind to account status.

Armor

A few armor upgrades can make all the difference to your survivability. Certain sets offer massive increases in poison, curse, fire and magic resistance, making the journey through difficult terrain a breeze. In general, the greater defense you can offer your character, the greater health you can gain from each point. Therefore, it's a good idea to upgrade your armor.

To upgrade your armor, go to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four Great Fairy Fountains in the game and to unlock each fountain, you have to complete a side quest that involves the Stable Trotters. After you've completed your main quest and the corresponding fountains, you'll have the option of talking to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the menu for upgrading armor.

Each piece of armor can be upgraded up to three levels and the amount of material and Rupees needed for each will vary. In general, you'll be looking at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu Jellies and ten Rupees for the first upgrade, and then anywhere from five Rubies and ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent upgrade. For example the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep up with a good-sized group of adversaries in most cold environments, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded up to +20 defense, providing you enough protection to survive the full-on assault with a few of your friends.

You can't upgrade your armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical strength or the power of spells. It's also worthwhile to save your armor upgrades for the armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you wear to fight the final boss as well as the Monter Parts merchant's mask.

You can also gain advantages to your armor by giving the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. You'll generally want to save these upgrades for the weapon you'll be using to beat the game. Potions

Trinkets
