There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and works while you are at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuums that mop vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic hoovers vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
