What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet, or co-sleeper, is a small crib for babies that is attached to your adult bed. This allows your baby to sleep next to you in a safe environment. This is a form of co-sleeping that is safe and doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you bond with your newborn.
These cots often have a side that can be lowered, so you can easily reach your newborn bedside cot during the night for feeding and comforting. This is especially useful for mothers who are recovering from an op. Many are also foldable or portable, so you can take them on trips and use them as a temporary sleeping solution for newborns who aren't quite ready to move to a full-sized cot.
Look for a crib with a mattress that is breathable, as well as a protective cover that will keep your baby safe from staining. You'll also want to buy baby-safe items such as a blanket, a teether and a cuddly toys.
If you're looking for a longer-term solution, some cribs come with conversion kits that let you transform them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is right. This is great for extending their life and making the transition easier. Some have a removable top section that converts into a bassinet, and some can be used on the regular or high-rise adult bed. This is an excellent choice for families who intend to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms in the evening. It is also important to consider the size of your room to ensure that you can fit the crib in comfortably. Many cribs come with an riser that can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.

Anna found the CoZee to be a safe and comfortable place to sleep for her infant. She was pleased the fact that it didn't roll like other models, which meant it didn't wake her up in the night when she was trying to comfort her baby during feeds. She also loved that the side was lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner to carry the baby for feedings at night.
The CoZee is available in charcoal or oak and is a stylish option for any bedroom. It looks more designer than other cribs we've tried and are typically utilitarian. The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is an infant bassinet designed to help parents feel connected with their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and can be moved through three slide positions to fit next to the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room, so that the baby is always close to the parent's side. The mesh siding is breathable, allowing air to flow through, and allows you to glance at your little one. And you can stow more pajamas and other supplies in the large storage basket underneath.
In contrast to other bedside crib options Iora is a standout among other bedside cribs. Iora folds flat and comes with a travel cot bedside bag so that it can be carried anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room and our mom testers thought it was the perfect size for a bedside cot mattress crib. They also liked the large storage basket, perfect for storing spare bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents looking to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but don't want to share their own beds or whose partners may have mobility issues, like back problems or arthritis. Our mom testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their child while in the Iora and that it came with an adjustable reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.
Our moms are also thrilled that it complies with NICE guidelines, which are to place the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets pillows, etc.). The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for babies and sheets are easily available. It isn't as light as the other cribs for bedside use, though and if you're looking for something lighter and more portable, think about one of the alternatives on our list.
