1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot hoover vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also have carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot hoover and mop's performance when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuums that mop vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the autonomous vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty those areas are.
For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you own a large furniture. Finally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
