Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.
For example, a weapon with the upgrade template ending in % will take on 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).
Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost rises with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to provide an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. These can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue before the component can be used. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a specific type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment as well as the items that are not ascending back. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
An upgrade may be prefixed or a suffix changing the name of the item to which it is used (for examplethe 'Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they require to reach the same level using normal methods.
A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of a weapon, or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them from the cash shop, or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.
Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher tier version of the item will be revealed at the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear, even when they're not sure what will be improved following a reset.
The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process could be expensive, and there is a high risk that the item may be obsolete or even break if it fails; a failed upgrade will cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items that double or even eliminate possibility of failure, and some upgrades that offer the benefit of being reinserted into an item.
Glyphs
Glyphs are upgrade components that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs buff the power of all nodes within a radius around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible to level 15.
You'll often see in the endgame that putting Glyphs is the most effective way to upgrade your gear. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded up to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.
The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restriction. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and rebuilt using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.
The value of each Glyph is displayed when you choose it in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.
Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.
After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you'll need them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Using a Glyph will boost all nodes that are linked to it, so you should aim to place your Glyphs near the most important nodes of the Graph to maximise the impact. For example an Druid should try to position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes but also consider placing them near critical damage nodes too.
Leveling
The item upgrading system allows players to improve the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level which determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385 ilvl. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components to be reached and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is advanced in level.
Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item upgrader mod. Once enough points are earned you will be able to claim your upgrade and also receive the bonuses.
When an individual player improves a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced by an item that is new. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item will also have its own set bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can become more expensive even if you don't require it.
Upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens to do so. The item will be replaced by a brand new one that is based on a level 1 base and totally different bonuses. This can be useful but it should not be used frequently as it can waste resources.
Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times to increase their value, giving players the ability to alter their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides buffs when the player repeatedly enters or exits the water. This item can be upgraded several times, increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is highly valuable in PvP. A perfectly rolled version could be worth up to 50x the value of its non-upgraded counterpart.
Requirements
Item upgrading allows players to upgrade the level of their available equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currency to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase its base defense and upgrades to weapon items increase the damage they deal and also increase their strength and dexterity.
Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear that can have eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it has a chance of failing. The rate of failure increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures will result in the item returning to its initial state, which requires the player to pay for more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.
If an item is not able to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally, the item upgrader kit will lose any bonus it earned such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or the speed of reloading). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.
When an Best item upgrade is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that should a weapon gain an increase in the chance of crit it will be applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a new attribute that has been added to the definitions of items. The value is calculated every time an upgrade occurs.
The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is dependent on its rarity score and the number of upgrade slots. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a typical equipment item might have 5 upgrades with a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will come with an incredibly lower cost for each additional upgrade.
Premium items have different upgrade requirements as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they may require fewer sowels, but more minerals and erons. The player will still need to bring each piece of gear they wish to upgrade to the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine. Each upgrade to equipment will require different amounts of upgrade ingredients in addition to the costs mentioned above.
