What is a bedside crib travel cot?
A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet, or co-sleeper, is a small crib for babies that is attached to your adult bed. This allows your baby to sleep right next to you in a safe environment. This is a form of co-sleeping that is safe and doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you build a bond with your baby's new arrival.
These cots have an end that can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily in the nighttime to comfort them and feed them. This is especially useful for mums recovering from an op. Many of them are foldable or portable making them suitable to travel or as an interim solution for babies who aren't quite ready to be able to transition into a full-sized crib.
Choose a crib that has a mattress that is breathable, as well as an appropriate cover to shield your baby from stains. It is also advisable to pick up some baby-safe add-ons such as a blanket and a cuddly toys.
If you are looking for a longer-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a toddler bed or a cot when the time is appropriate. This is a great option for extending their lifespan and making the transition smoother. Some even have a detachable top section that transforms into a bassinet, and some can be used on either a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families that are planning on frequent travel or switching rooms at night. Be aware of the dimensions of your bedroom to ensure you fit comfortably in the crib. Many cribs come with an incline which can be used to create an incline for babies who have reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
They are known for their high-end baby products, English brand Joie has entered the world of bedside cribs with the Roomie Glide. The idea behind the product is to help parents bond with their babies whilst sleeping side by side without sharing a bed this co-sleeper has features that make bonding between parents and babies easy, safe and enjoyable.
One of the main features is a soft rocking motion that can be activated at the press of the button. This gentle rhythm can help soothe your baby into sleep without disturbing their natural sleeping patterns. This is ideal for toddlers or older babies who have difficulty settling down. It can also assist with digestive issues such as colic and reflux.
The crib can also be attached to the side of the bed by clips and straps. This makes it very stable and secure, allowing you to enjoy a great night's sleep without worrying about your baby rolling off into the middle of the room. The cocoon's rounded shape has soft padded side panels and double mesh windows on both ends. This allows for airflow while keeping your baby safe.
The mattress included is firm and comfortable and comes with an easily removable cover. The lightweight aluminium frame makes the crib very portable and easy to assemble. It also has an upper bar that is easily lowered for feeding at night without having to fumble with zips in the dark.
Anna discovered that the CoZee could be a safe, comfortable place to sleep for her infant. She was pleased that it didn't sway like other models, which meant it wasn't waking her at night when she was trying to comfort her baby during feeds. She also loved that the side was lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner to carry the baby for feedings at night.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It's more stylish than other cribs we've seen, which are often quite utilitarian. It's also quite light at 11kg and comes with a carry bag which allows you to take it away on holidays or when you move your home. The only things you'll require are a fitted waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and images are simple to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to help parents feel closer to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted upwards and downwards, and moved through three different slide positions to fit beside the bed of the parent or in the corner so the baby is always in reach. The mesh siding lets air flow through, and allows you to see your baby quickly. You can also store additional pajamas or other items in the large basket underneath.
Unlike some other smaller bedside crib options Iora is a standout among other bedside co sleeper cot cribs. Iora can be folded flat and comes with a bag for travel cot bedside crib so that it can be carried anywhere. It was easy to move from room to room, and our mom testers thought it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is great to store extra bedding or nappies.
This is an excellent choice for parents who want to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but don't want to share their beds or whose partners may have mobility issues, like back problems or arthritis. Our mom testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their baby in the Iora and that it came with an adjustable reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.
Our mums appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. These include placing an infant in the Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets, pillows etc. They also state that the mattress is firm and comfortable for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as other smaller cribs on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier for you to move, choose another option.
