World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.
For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that is ending in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with the item's level.
Components
Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor in order to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components are only available to equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's applied to (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, which lets players to create stronger versions of the item using the smallest amount of upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level with normal methods.
A boost upgrade is a way to modify the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.
Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher tier version of an item will be revealed at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of how much they'll increase after a future reset.
The process of upgrading an item could be expensive, and it is possible that the item will become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that can double or even eliminate chance of failure, and a few upgrades that give the benefit of being reinserted into an item.
Glyphs
Glyphs are upgrade elements that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, and include any pre-existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded various ways, and we suggest upgrading them to 15 levels whenever you can.
You will often find in the endgame that placing Glyphs is a great way to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded directly to level 15, and they provide significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes much faster.
The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without restriction. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.
Each Glyph has a certain range of values that it can improve a statistic by. The value is displayed when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.
You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of an Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools, and through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the many Glyphs and there are some rare Glyphs that can be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.
Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you'll require them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a special bonus which will boost a specific set of stat nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. Based on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Glyphs boost all nodes that are connected to them, so it is best to place Glyphs in strategic locations on the Graph. This will increase the impact. For instance, a Druid should aim to place their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes but also consider placing them near critical damage nodes too.
Leveling
The upgrade system for items allows players to boost the power of certain items by adding upgraded components. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned an amount that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires different components, and upgrade item costs increase with each level.
Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. When enough points have been earned you'll be able to claim your upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.
When the player improves the equipment they have the original item will be replaced by an item that is new. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item also has its own set bonus. This could be a problem in that it could cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.
If the player has enough tokens, they can roll item upgrades. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it is based on a level 1 base and completely different bonuses. This is useful for some items, but it's not something that should be performed frequently, since it can waste many resources.
Some upgrades can increase their value and allow players to modify their equipment. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives a buff when the player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or is able to swim like dolphins). This can be upgraded several times, each time increasing the max roll by a factor of 10. This item is highly useful in PvP. A perfectly rolled version could be worth up to 50x the value of the unupgraded counterpart.
Requirements
Item upgrading allows players to increase the quality of their equippable gear--armor, weapons and trinkets over ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currencies to an item upgrader (Going On this page) NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also boost the defense base of that piece, while upgrading weapon equipment will increase the base damage and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.
Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear that can be upgraded up to eight times. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it is at risk of failing. The failure rate increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures will result in the item reverting back to its original state, requiring the player to pay more for materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.
If an item does not upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it gained, such as crit chance attack damage, other effects (such as increased heal over time, or reloading speed). However, the user can continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.
When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest. This means that if a weapon receives a crit chance boost it will be applied before any attack damage increases. A new attribute called Slots is now added to the definition of the item and the value is computed each time an upgrade is made.
The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading equipment that is not premium is equal to the value of the base item. For example, a common item might have five upgrades at a cost. 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero grade items are less expensive per upgrade.
Premium items could have different upgrade requirements than regular gear. For instance they may require less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons. Whatever the case, players will need to visit the NPC [ArmorBoboko in Central Flarine. Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade cost mentioned above, each equipment upgrade will require an individual amount of ingredients needed to upgrade.
