We were capable of testing the EV9 on the local highway for a few hours, and found it to be easy to drive and comfortable to drive for long distances. The EV9 can be used to block the sound of traffic and wind driving on the highway. It glides effortlessly over ruts and humps. The acceleration is extremely fast and the car has adjustable regenerative braking that allows "one pedal driving" by taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 has a great range and can be fully recharged in just three hours at home or with any commercial charger. Drivers have the option of choosing between two modes of operation: eco mode and sports mode. The eco mode prioritizes torque and cruise control while the sport mode increases speed and handling. Both modes are fun to drive, and offer a unique experience for those who have never experienced driving an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicles available, including a multi-purpose electric mini bus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used for executive shuttles, transit or microtransit vanpools, buses, or paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower produces about 10 EV Star busses a month for Jacksonville Transit Authority. The Jacksonville Transit Authority is replacing their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 electric vehicles. With the Biden Administration planning to electrify schools across the nation, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet demand. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS certified. They are Buy America compliant, and ADA compliant. This will make them eligible for federal transit grants. Stay tuned when we follow the AV Star on its demonstration tour later this year. We will be sure to give more details about this EV that is truly innovative!
