What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib (also known as a bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small infant cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your infant to sleep comfortably next to you. This is a form of safe co-sleeping that doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing and can help you bond with your baby's new arrival.
They have a side which can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is especially helpful for mothers who are recovering from a csection. Many of them are mobile or foldable, which means you can bring them along on trips and use them as a sleeping option for babies who aren't ready to transition to a larger cot.
If you're looking for a crib that is bedside crib with wheels, look for a model with a comfortable mattress and a protective cover to shield your infant from the stains. You should also pick up some baby-safe add-ons such as a blanket, a teether and a cuddly toy.
If you are looking for a longer-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is right. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition a lot easier. Some have a removable top section that can be converted into an infant bed, and some can be used as a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families that intend to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms in the evening. Take into consideration the size of your bedroom to ensure that you fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with risers that can be added to create an incline for babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib that turns into cot crib made by the English brand Joie, is a great addition to their line of high-quality baby products. This makes it very stable and secure allowing you to enjoy a great night's sleep without having to worry about your baby rolling off into the middle of the room. The rounded shape of the cocoon is complemented by softly padding on the sides and double mesh windows at both ends. This allows for airflow while keeping your baby safe.

Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfortable place to sleep for her baby. She was pleased that it didn't move like other models, so she didn't wake up at night while trying to soothe her child for feedings. She also liked that the sides of the chair was lowered so she didn't have to reach over her partner in order to lift the child out to feed her at night.
The CoZee comes in charcoal or oak and is a fashionable addition to any bedroom. It's more of an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs that we've tested, which can appear quite utilitarian. It's also fairly light at just 11kg and comes with a carry case which allows you to take it with you on holiday or if moving your home. You only need to purchase a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and illustrations are simple to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet that can be placed at the bedside that allows parents to feel more connected to their infant while they sleep. It adjusts upwards and downwards and moves through three slide positions to fit next to the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room so that baby is always close at hand. The mesh siding allows air to flow through and allows you to quickly see your baby. And you can stow extra pajamas and supplies in the large storage basket underneath.
In contrast to other twin bedside cot crib options, the Iora can be folded flat and comes with a travel bag to allow it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room and our mum testers believed it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is perfect for storing extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents who want to co-sleep but don't want to share their bed. If one of the partners suffers from mobility issues like back pain or arthritis. Our mom testers love the ease with which they can access their baby in the Iora and that it has an optional reflux incline to help alleviate gas.
Our mums also love the fact that it meets NICE guidelines that state to put the infant in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets, pillows, etc). They also claim that the mattress is firm and comfortable for the baby and easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as other smaller bedside cribs however, so if you want something lighter and easier to move around with, consider one of the other options in our list.
