1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best rated robot vacuum robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuum reviews vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and automatic vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Also, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
