What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib, also referred as a bassinet, or co-sleeper, is a small baby cot attached to your adult bed. This allows your child to sleep with you in peace. This is a safe form of co-sleeping and doesn't increase your risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It can also help you bond with the new baby.
The cots usually come with a side that can be raised, so you can easily reach your baby at night to feed and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from a c section. Many of them are foldable or portable, so you can take them on trips and use them as a temporary sleep option for babies who aren't ready to transition to a larger cot.
Choose a crib that has an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an appropriate cover to keep your baby safe from staining. You might also want purchase baby-safe items such as the blanket or teether.
If you're looking for a long-term option, some cribs come with conversion kits that let you transform them into a cot, or a toddler bed at the time of need. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition a lot easier. Some come with a removable section at the top that can be converted into the bassinet. Others can be used with either an adult bed that is standard or a high-rise model. This is an excellent choice for families who intend to travel cot bedside crib frequently or change between bedrooms in the evening. Be aware of the size of your bedroom to ensure you fit in the crib comfortably. A lot of cribs have a riser which can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.

Anna discovered that the CoZee was a comfortable and safe place to sleep for her baby. She liked that it didn't move like other models, so she wasn't woken up in the night trying to soothe her baby during feedings. She also appreciated that the sides of the chair lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner to carry the child out to feed them at night.
The CoZee is available in oak or charcoal and is a chic addition to any bedroom. It's more modern than the other cribs we've tested that are usually utilitarian. It's also relatively lightweight at 11kg and comes with a carry case so you can carry it with you on holiday or when you move home. The only extras you require are a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and images are easy to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a newborn bedside cot bassinet that allows parents to feel more connected to their infant as they sleep. It can be adjusted both up and down, and moved through three different positions for sliding to fit beside the bed of the parent or in the corner so the baby is always in reach. The mesh siding lets air flow through and allows you to quickly see your baby. And you can store extra pajamas and supplies in the large storage basket under.
The Iora is a smaller bedside cots crib that can fold flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room and our mum testers believed it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is ideal to store bedding and nappies.
This is a great choice for parents who want to co-sleep, but don't want to share their beds, or whose partners might be prone to mobility issues, such as arthritis or back pain. Our mum testers loved that they could easily access their baby while in the Iora and that it included an adjustable reflux incline that helped reduce gas.
Our moms appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. These include placing the infant in a Moses basket or crib on its own, without blankets, toys, pillows etc. The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are easily available. It's not as light as other smaller cribs on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier for you to move, choose another alternative.
