1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture leg. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot automatic hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum best vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose autonomous vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would think from its price. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
