A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
If you're looking to keep baby as close as possible at night without getting out of bed, a bedside crib is the best option. The breathable fabric lets you easily see your baby and they're super easy to lower for those bleary-eyed 3am feeds.
Some also double up as a moses basket too.
What is a bedside cot?
A cheap bedside cot crib (also called a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small infant crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep safely next to you. This is a secure form of co-sleeping and does not increase the risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It also helps you bond with the new baby.
The cots come with a side which can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is especially useful for mums recovering from the c-section. Many of them are mobile or foldable, which means you can take them on trips and use them as a temporary sleep option for babies who aren't ready to transition to a full-sized cot.
If you're looking for a crib that is bedside Look for a crib with a breathable mattress and a cover to protect your newborn from the stains. You may also want to purchase baby-safe items such as a blanket or teether.
If you are looking for a more long-term solution, some cribs come with conversion kits that let you transform them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is right. This will prolong their life and make the transition easier. Some have a removable section at the top that can be transformed into the bassinet. Some can be used with either a regular adult bed or a high-rise one. This is an excellent choice for families that are planning to travel frequently or change between bedrooms at night. Be aware of the dimensions of your room to ensure you fit comfortably in the crib. Many cribs have risers that can be added to create an incline for babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
They are known for their high-end baby products, English brand Joie has stepped into the world of cribs for bedside use with the Roomie Glide. The co-sleeper was created to help parents bond and sleep side-by-side with their children without sharing the same bed. It's loaded with features that make bonding between parent and baby safe, simple, and fun.
One of the main features is a smooth rocking motion that can be activated with the touch of a button. This gentle rhythm can help soothe your baby into sleep without disrupting their natural sleep patterns. This is ideal for toddlers and older babies who are struggling to settle and can also help with digestive issues such as colic and reflux.
The crib can be locked into its place after the rocking has been finished to stop it from moving and can also be secured on the side of your bed with clips and straps. This makes it stable and secure, allowing you to get a good night's rest without worrying about your little one rolling off into the middle of the room. The cocoon's rounded shape has soft padding on the sides and double mesh windows on both ends. This allows airflow while ensuring your baby's safety.
The mattress included is comfortable and firm and includes a washable cover. The crib is easy to set up and disassemble thanks to the lightweight aluminum frame that makes it extremely portable. The four lockable wheels are covered in rubber to ensure the crib won't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. The crib is easy to clean thanks to the wipeable woven fabric and is easily put in a bag for long-term stays.
The TuttiBambini Air
This model is made to be a safe next-to-me-crib from birth to 6 months. It comes with bars that rock for easy mobility and castors. Its deluxe airflow mattress offers a comfortable sleep surface while the ventilation panels ensure your baby is kept cool. There are six different height settings including an incline option that can aid with congestion and reflux.
The Tutti Bambini COZee Air crib comes with a removable fabric and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than wooden bedside cot cribs that can be messy to clean. It also comes with a top bar that can be easily lowered to allow for feeding at night without having to mess with zips.
Anna found the CoZee to be a safe and cozy sleeping place for her infant. She was pleased that it didn't rock like other models, so it wasn't waking her at night while she was trying to soothe her baby for feeds. She also enjoyed that the side lowered down so that she didn't have to reach over her partner to lift the baby to feed her at night.
The CoZee comes in charcoal or oak and is a chic accessory to any bedroom. It looks more designer than other cribs we've seen, which are often quite utilitarian. It's also quite light at just 11kg, and comes with a carry bag so you can carry it with you on holiday or if moving house. The only additional items you'll need to buy are a fitted waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and images are simple to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to help parents feel connected with their baby while they sleep. It adjusts up and down and moves through three slide positions to be placed next to the bed of the parent, or in the corner of the room so that the baby is always close at hand. The mesh siding allows air to flow through and allows you to see your baby quickly. You can also store additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket under.
As opposed to other wooden bedside cot crib options, the Iora folds flat and comes with a travel bag so that it can be carried anywhere. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room and felt that it was a good size for a bedside cot, and not too big or too small. The large storage basket is ideal to store extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great option for parents who want to sleep together but don't want to share their bed. Also, if one of the partners has mobility issues, such as back pain or arthritis. Our mum testers loved that they could easily access their child in the Iora and that it had an option to have a reflux incline which helped alleviate gas.
Our mums love that it follows NICE guidelines. These include placing an infant in the Moses basket or crib on its own, without toys, blankets and pillows. They also claim that the mattress is firm and comfortable for baby and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as the other cribs that are smaller however and if you're looking for something lighter and easier to move around with, look at other options in our list.
