What is a bedside crib?

A bedside crib (also called a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small baby crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep comfortably next to you. This is a safe form of co sleeper bedside cot-sleeping and doesn't increase your risk of SIDS, like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with your new baby.

These cots often have a side that is able to be adjusted so that you can easily reach your newborn during the night for feeding and comforting. This is especially helpful for mothers who are recovering from a c section. Many are portable or foldable which means you can use them for travel and as an interim solution for infants who aren't ready to transition into a full-sized crib.

Choose a crib that has a mattress that is breathable, as well as an extra-safe cover that will shield your baby from staining. You should also purchase baby-safe accessories such as a blanket, a teether and a soft toys.

If you're looking for a more long-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that let you turn them into a cot or a toddler bed when the time comes. This is great for extending their life span and making the transition easier. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be converted into an infant bed. Other models can be used in conjunction with a standard adult bed or a high-rise one. This is a great option for families that intend to travel frequently or change between bedrooms in the evening. You should also consider how big your bedroom is to ensure that you can squeeze the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.

It was a pleasure to not move like other models, which meant she wasn't disturbed at night while trying to soothe her child during feedings. The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to help parents feel more connected to their baby as they sleep. It can be adjusted both up and down, and moved through three different slide positions, to fit beside the bed of the parent or in the corner so that the baby is always at hand. The breathable mesh siding allows air to circulate through and allows you to glance at your little one. You can also store any extra pajamas or items in the large basket beneath.

Unlike some other smaller bedside crib and cot crib options Iora is a standout among other bedside cribs. Iora folds flat and comes with a carry-on bag to allow it to be carried anywhere. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room and believed that it was a good size for a small bedside cot, and not too big or small. The large storage basket is great to store bedding and nappies.

This is a great choice for parents who are looking to co-sleep but do not wish to share their beds, or whose partners might have mobility issues, like back problems or arthritis. Our mum testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their baby in the Iora and that it had an option to have a reflux incline which helped reduce gas.

Our moms also love the fact that it complies with NICE guidelines which state that you should place the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). They also say that the mattress is firm and comfortable for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as some of the cribs that are smaller on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier for you to move, you can choose another alternative.
