What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib (also called bassinet or co-sleeper) is a baby crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep comfortably next to you. This is a safe form of co-sleeping, which doesn't increase the risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It can also help you bond with the newborn baby bedside cot.
The cots usually come with a side that can be lowered, so you can easily reach your infant during the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from the c-section. Many are portable or foldable which means you can use them for travel and as an interim solution for babies who aren't quite ready to transition into a crib that is large enough.
Find a crib that has a breathable mattress, and a protective cover that will keep your baby safe from staining. You'll also want to buy baby-safe items such as a blanket and cuddly toy.
If you're seeking a long-term solution, some cribs come with conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a toddler bed or cot bedside at the time that is right. This is great for extending their lifespan and making the transition more seamless. Some have a removable top section that can be converted into a bassinet, and some can be used on either an ordinary or high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families that plan on frequently traveling or transferring between bedrooms throughout the night. Consider the dimensions of your bedroom to make sure you can fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an riser that can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.

She was delighted the fact that it didn't roll like some other models, so it didn't wake her at night when she was trying to soothe her baby during feeds. She also liked that the side of the chair lowered so she didn't have to reach over her partner in order to lift the child out for nighttime feedings.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a beautiful addition to the bedroom. It's more modern than other cribs we've tried and are typically utilitarian. The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bedside bassinet that helps parents feel connected to their child while they sleep. It can be adjusted both up and down and moved to three different positions for sliding to be placed beside the bed of the parent or in the corner so that the baby is always within reach. The mesh siding allows air to flow through, and allows you to quickly see your baby. And you can stow extra pajamas and supplies in the large storage basket beneath.
The Iora is a smaller bedside crib that can fold flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room, and our mum testers felt it was the right size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is great for storing extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents who want to co-sleep, but don't want to share their beds, or whose partners might have mobility issues, like back problems or arthritis. Our mum testers love the convenience of being able to access their baby in the Iora and that it comes with an option to tilt the bed upwards to help with gas.
Our mums also love the fact that it meets NICE guidelines, which are to place the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets pillows, etc.). The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for babies, and sheets are easy to find. It's not as light as some of the smaller cribs on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier for you to move around, consider a different option.
