A Small bedside cots Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
A crib that is placed near your bed allows you to keep your baby close at night, without having to get up. The fabric is breathable, which means you can easily see your baby, and they're incredibly easy to lower for those tired 3am feedings.
Some double as moses' baskets.
What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also called a bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small infant cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep comfortably next to you. This is a secure form of co-sleeping, which doesn't increase the risk of SIDS, like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with the new baby.
The cots come with a side which can be adjusted so that you can reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is especially useful for mums recovering from a c-section. Many of them are foldable or portable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleep option for babies who aren't ready to transition into a cot that is full size.
Look for a crib with an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an appropriate cover to shield your baby from stains. You'll also want to buy baby bedside cot-safe items like a blanket, teether and a soft toys.
If you're looking for a long-term option, some cribs come with conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a cot, or a toddler bed when the time comes. This is a great option for extending their life and making the transition more seamless. Some even have a detachable top section that transforms into an infant bed, and some can be used on an ordinary or high-rise adult bed. This is a good choice for families who are planning on frequent travel or transferring between bedrooms throughout the night. Be aware of the dimensions of your room to make sure you can fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with a riser which can be used to create an incline for babies who have reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib made by the English brand Joie is a fantastic addition to their range of high-quality products for babies. The idea behind the product is to allow parents to bond with their babies whilst sleeping side by side without sharing a bed. This co-sleeper comes with features that help make bonding between parents easy, safe and enjoyable.
One of the main features is a smooth, rocking motion that can be activated with the press of an button. This can soothe baby into sleep with a gentle rhythm that doesn't disrupt their natural sleeping pattern. This is ideal for toddlers and older infants who are struggling to settle. It can also help with digestive issues such as reflux and colic.
The crib can be locked into its place after the rocking has been completed to stop it from moving. It can also be secured on the bed's side with clips and straps. This makes it very solid and secure, allowing you to get a good night's rest without worrying about your baby sliding off into the middle of the room. The round shape of the cocoon features soft padded side panels and double mesh windows on both ends. This allows airflow while ensuring your baby's safety.
The mattress included is comfortable and firm. It comes with a washable cover. The crib is easy to put together and take down thanks to a lightweight aluminium frame that makes it very portable. The four locking wheels are covered in rubber to ensure the crib won't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. It is easy to clean using fabric wipes and is easy to put in a bag for travel, which makes it ideal for long-term time away from home.
The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air
This premium model is designed to be a safe baby-sitter from birth until 6 months. It features bars that rock to make it easy to move and castors. The airflow mattresses are deluxe and provide a comfy sleeping surface, and ventilation panels help keep your baby cool. There are 6 different height settings including an incline option that can aid with congestion and reflux.
The Tutti Bambini COZee Air crib has a fabric that can be removed and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than bedside cribs that can be a mess to clean. It also has a top bar that can be easily adjusted to feed at night without having to fumble with zips in the dark.
Anna found the CoZee to be a safe and comfortable place to sleep for her baby. It was a pleasure to not move like other models so she wasn't disturbed in the night trying to comfort her child during feedings. She also enjoyed the fact that the side could be lowered so she didn't need to reach out over her partner to lift the baby out for feedings at night.
The CoZee is available in charcoal and oak and was a stylish addition to the bedroom. It's more of a designer piece than some of the other cribs we've tested, and can appear quite utilitarian. It is also relatively light at just 11kg. It also comes with a carry-on case, so you can take it on holiday or when you are moving home. It's all you need to buy is a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and images are simple to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to help parents feel more connected to their baby as they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and slides through three positions to fit next to the bed of the parent, or in the corner of the room, to ensure that your baby is close to the parent's side. The mesh siding allows air to flow through, and allows you to see your baby easily. And you can store additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket under.
Unlike some other smaller bedside crib options, the Iora can be folded flat and comes with a travel bag so that it can be taken wherever. Our mum testers found it easy to move from room to room, and believed that it was a good size for a small bedside cot that was not too big or small. They also liked the large bedside cot storage basket perfect for storing nappies or bedding.
This is a great choice for parents who are looking to co-sleep but do not want to share their beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as arthritis or back issues. Our mums who tested it loved that they could easily access their child while in the Iora and that it had an adjustable reflux incline that helped alleviate gas.
Our moms love that it follows NICE guidelines. These are to place the baby in a Moses basket or crib on its own, without blankets, toys, pillows etc. The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for babies, and sheets are easy to find. It's not as light as the other cribs that are smaller, though, so if you want something lighter and easier to move around with, look at other options in our list.
