EV Star
GreenPower Motor Company produces a full suite of high-floor and low-floor all-electric heavy-duty and medium-duty vehicles. Their flagship vehicle is the EV Star Cab & Chassis platform, which can accommodate many different upfits and bodies for multiple applications. The design of the platform is based on a clear paper that allows for optimum placement of the battery and a lower center-of-gravity. This results in higher payload/range ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX is designed to be used for mid to last mile refrigerated delivery and catering. The class 4 refrigerated trucks with a single wall structure inside and a higher insulation level than conventional trucks, allows for seamless sanitation and better temperature control. They also have a longer life span. The EV Star REEFERX offers superior capacity for cargo and a world-class payload to range ratio for zero-emission goods and passenger transportation.
GreenPower partnered with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems. This will allow fleets to transition to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be capable of wireless charging at 75 kW.
We were able to test drive the EV9 on a local highway for several hours and found it to be easy to drive and comfortable to drive for long distances. The ride is smooth and smooth over bumps and ruts, while the EV9 is a master of suppressing the sound of traffic and wind on the highway. The car's acceleration is surprisingly quick, and it has adjustable regenerative brakes that permit "one-pedal driving" simply by lifting off the accelerator.
The EV9 has excellent range and can be fully recharged within three hours at home or with any commercial charger. Drivers can select between two modes of operation: eco mode and sports mode. Eco mode focuses on torque and cruise control while the sport mode increases speed and handling. Both are a lot of fun to drive and offer an unique experience for anyone who has never been in an electric vehicle before.
GreenPower offers several other eVehicles which include a multi-purpose electric minibus, green power mobility power electric scooter (glamorouslengths.Com) called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and can be utilized as an executive shuttle, micro-transit, transit vanpool, bus or a paratransit vehicle.
GreenPower is currently producing around 10 EV Star buses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is working to replace their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 all-electric vehicles. With the Biden Administration planning to electrify school buses nationwide, GreenPower plans on ramping up production to meet demand. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS certified, Buy America compliant, and ADA certified. This will make them eligible for federal transit grants. Stay tuned as we follow the AV Star on its tour of demonstration later in the year. We'll be sure to give more details about this innovative EV!
