What is a bedside crib and travel cot crib?

A bedside cot for twins crib (also called bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small baby crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep safely next to you. It's a method of co-sleeping that is safe and does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) similar to bedsharing and can help you build a bond with your newborn.

The cots come with a side which can be adjusted so that you can reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is especially useful for mothers who are recovering from the c-section. Many are also portable or foldable, so you can take them on trips and use them as a sleeping solution for infants who aren't yet ready to move into a cot that is full size.

Look for a crib with a mattress that is breathable, as well as an extra-safe cover that will shield your baby from stains. You might also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like an infant blanket or a teether.

If you're looking for a longer-term alternative, some cribs are equipped with conversion kits that let you convert them into a cot or toddler bed at the time of need. This will prolong their life and make the transition easier. Some have a removable section at the top that can be transformed into a bassinet. Some can be used in conjunction with a regular adult bed or a high-rise one. This is a great option for families that plan to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms in the evening. Take into consideration the dimensions of your bedroom to ensure you be able to fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.

Anna found the CoZee to be a safe and comfortable place to sleep for her infant. It was a pleasure to not move like other models, so she wasn't disturbed at night while trying to soothe her baby during feedings. She also loved that the side of the chair could be lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner to lift the child out to feed her at night.

The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a beautiful addition to the bedroom. It's more of a designer piece than some of the other cribs that we've tried, which appear rather utilitarian. It's also quite light at just 11kg, and comes with a carrying case which allows you to take it away on holidays or when you move house. The only things you'll require are a waterproof cover and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and images are easy to follow once you open the box.

The Maxi-Cosi Lora

The Iora is an infant bassinet designed to make parents feel closer to their infant while they sleep. It can be adjusted upwards and downwards and shifted through three different slide positions to fit beside the bed of the parent or in the corner, so the baby is always within reach. The mesh siding allows air to circulate through, allowing you to quickly see your baby. You can also store extra pajamas or supplies in the large basket beneath.

As opposed to other bedside crib options Iora is a standout among other bedside co sleeper cribs. Iora folds flat and comes with a travel bag so that it can be taken anywhere. Our mum testers were able to move it from room to room and believed that it was a good size for a small bedside cot newborn cot that was not too big or too small. They also appreciated the large storage basket, which is ideal for stowing nappies or bedding.

This is a great choice for parents who wish to sleep together but don't want to share their bed. If one of the parents has mobility issues like back pain or arthritis. Our mums who tested it loved that they could easily access their child in the Iora and that it had an adjustable reflux incline that helped reduce gas.

Our mothers are also thrilled that it meets NICE guidelines which state that you should place the infant in a crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets pillows, etc.). The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for babies and sheets are readily available. It isn't as light as the other cribs for bedside use, though it is a good choice if you are looking for something lighter and easier to move around with, think about one of the alternatives on our list.
