1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling, the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ an excellent choice for people who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of manually emptying their robot's dustbin when it fills up.

Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on floors and carpets and can maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart map of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top 10 robot vacuum cleaner rated robots we tested, the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and may have issues navigating across surface transitions like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it may encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clean to prevent them from getting blocked. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station's dust bin. It then continues cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. -- the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot using voice or through the app.

In our tests the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin, which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and reduces recurring costs.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. The claims of its marketing that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading as CR's tests show. This is a typical and not a remarkable time for a battery-powered cordless vac. This is enough time to vacuum the typical home, but not enough to reach every spot. (A second time is usually sufficient). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its benefits It's lighter and more maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is noticeably superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a basic robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have lots of money to invest in the latest model of robot. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris in our tests, and frequently went over the same area several times to ensure a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it to reach into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice touch.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models such as our top choices, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It can get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects because it has fewer components that require regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and can charge faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips that can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and performs better on low-pile and bare floors.

This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested, and this could be a deal breaker for some buyers.
