GreenPower Motor Company produces a full line of high-floor Green Power Electric Mobility Scooter; pop over here, as well as low-floor all-electric heavy-duty and green power Scooter medium-duty vehicles. Their flagship vehicle is the EV Star Cab & Chassis platform, which is able to accommodate many different upfits and bodies for multiple applications. The design of the platform is based on a clear paper sheet, which allows for optimal placement of the battery and a lower center-of-gravity. This results in higher range/payload ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX was designed for mid-to last mile refrigerated deliveries and catering applications. The class 4 refrigerated truck's one interior wall structure and higher insulation levels compared to traditional trucks enable seamless sanitation, improved temperature control, and a longer life. The EV Star REEFERX has a higher capacity for cargo, and an industry-leading payload to allow for zero emission goods or passenger transportation.
GreenPower has collaborated with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system. This will allow fleets to quickly move to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be able of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We had the chance to test the EV9 for several hours on a local freeway and found it to be a breeze to drive and comfortable for long distances. The ride is smooth on bumps and ruts, and the EV9 does an excellent job of reducing wind and road noise on the highway. The vehicle's acceleration is surprising quick, and it has adjustable regenerative brakes that permit "one-pedal driving" simply by releasing the accelerator.
The EV9 is extremely reliable and can be fully recharged in about three hours at home or with any commercial charger. Drivers can choose between two modes of operation including eco mode and sports mode. Eco mode focuses on the torque and cruise control while the sport mode increases speed and handling. Both modes are fun to drive and provide a unique experience for those who have never experienced driving an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicle offerings including a multi-purpose all-electric minibus called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and can be utilized as an executive shuttle, micro-transit or transit vanpool, bus or paratransit vehicle.
GreenPower is already producing around 10 EV Star buses per month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is attempting to replace their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 electric vehicles. With the Biden Administration aiming to electrify schools across the nation, GreenPower plans on ramping up production to meet demand. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS certified. They are Buy America compliant, and ADA conforming. They will be eligible for federal transit grants. We will be following the AV Star as it begins its demonstration tour in later this year. We will share more details on this amazing electric vehicle!
