Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Components
Upgrade components are the parts that can make your weapons and armor more effective. You can get them from fighting off enemies, locating them in item spheres or purchasing them from karma sellers. You can also get them from equipment containing the components or through high-end salvage kits like Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. In contrast to other items upgrade components, upgrade components aren't destroyed when removed from an item.
The primary function of upgrade components is to enable an item to be upgraded, but they also serve other functions. They can be used to increase the level of an upgradeable item, or they can be used to boost the experience gained when upgrading an existing weapon or piece of equipment. They can be forged for extra bonuses. A crafted glyph can increase the chance of upgrading its target while a boost upgrade increases the defense or attack capabilities of the weapon.
You can connect an upgrade template to an item by selecting it from the edition GUI. This will show the upgrade components that the item can be upgraded. You can also use the workbench to select an upgrade template. In either scenario, an item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components have been gathered.
Each component has a distinct experience multiplier, which determines the amount of experience an item receives when it is upgraded with that component. For instance, organic components give more experience multipliers than mechanical ones. You should upgrade organic components first until you reach the next level in the weapon or equipment and then switch to the mechanical upgrades.
In addition to the multiplier of experience every item also has an maximum number of upgrades it can receive. The number of upgrades is determined by the rank that can be upgraded and the type of upgrade available to the upgradeable item. For instance, the most expensive possible weapon upgrade is a weapon with tier 10. However, the most popular weapon upgrades are a tier 6 weapon and an armor upgrade of tier 5.
Sets
A set is a collection of items which all have the same bonus. Each item can be upgraded at minimum once. The upgrade will increase the bonuses that are guaranteed. When you first upgrade a set piece or weapon is that it will be given a +1 increase to its primary stat. On subsequent upgrades, the primary stats will be increased even more (for instance, +1 for 12+/13+/14+) and every time an item is upgraded, one of its additional stats increases randomly.

To upgrade an item, you'll require a power dice of each type (Dice 4 or 6 drop from monsters 21+ and Giants; Dice 7 drops from bosses) and the proper amount of Minerals and Erons. These are available at the crafting table or in the Ultra Collector and can be purchased using Gold. The NPC will also offer a special reward for each tier of the upgrade process. Rerolling
If a player has enough rerolling tokens, they can roll any item they've accumulated during the game. When an item is rerolled it will be replaced by the same level in another set. Reroll tokens are available at the store for a small amount of in-game currency, but they cannot be refunded. The new item will have the same bonuses as the previous one, but the stats will also differ.
Players can change the identity of equipment in addition to rolling it again by interacting with an NPC upgrader. This will change its identification from a weapons to armor or reverse the process.
