World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its stats improve in value. This is the sum of all its upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It also serves as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). The average item level can be found on the character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it's able to deal. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.
On PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full item description, including its value. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are a few theories on how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that various perks have different value and sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzard's actual item level.
This is not the only factor that influences the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an exclusive name to the item.
All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items that can be used to add to the upgrade item gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.
Players can upgrade item an item to a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an item that is unique, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. Similar to the base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous for early game runs, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons can be made or spawn with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items are available in the shops or made with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it does not work.
The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The success of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. Every item has an initial success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases that chance by an additional 5percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
