Buying a pram newborn (please click the next page)
Parents and caregivers can rely on prams and pushchairs travel systems that can be versatile and multi-functional. They're the co-pilots of the new journey of your child.
A pram newborn is a must for newborns and babies and has a deep, sturdy carrycot with soft and secure walls.
A pram is equipped with a bassinet, but it can also be converted into a stroller when the baby is ready.
Safety
Newborns are incredibly fragile and must be kept as safe as possible. A stroller or pram that has safety features will keep your baby safe and comfortable during compact travel stroller. A stroller or pram should include a break that is working, a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps and two waist straps and an e-crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person pushing it. Check that the foldable pram you select meets these requirements.
Find a stroller that allows your newborn to ride in the recommended lying flat position. This position is supportive for your baby and helps prevent the risk of a dangerous curve in their spine that could cause spinal problems. By keeping the airways open, it lowers the risk for SUID (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or Asphyxiation). The majority of prams can be used right from the moment of birth. They come with a seat unit which reclines into a lay-flat position for younger infants and converts into a pushchair unit for older children.
The suspension of a pram is important because it affects how smooth the ride is. A pram that has many suspensions is likely to cost more but it could be worth the cost of this feature if you intend to use your pram every day for a few years or more.
Always read the directions and look at the warning labels on your stroller or pram. When not using it, keep your stroller away from any potential hazards like bicycles, traffic or other people. You should also remove any bags or other objects from the handles, as they can cause your baby to become caught or choke.
A pram or stroller should not be left alone with a baby inside even if they're asleep. They may squirm into the pram and get trapped, or it could slide away and cause injury. Hanging bags, or other items on the handles isn't an ideal idea since they could fall and hit your child in the head.
Comfort
It is vital that newborns have the option of lying flat, as this promotes lung and back development. A lot of prams come with a cocoon or carrycot that creates a cosy nest-like space for your newborn and can be easily removed from the frame. Certain seats, like the bucket-style seat found on the egg2, aren't able to recline completely flat, but offer an enjoyable ride for your child.
Some prams also have an additional bassinet, infant inset or stroller seat, so you can easily switch between sitting and sleeping modes according to your baby's needs. This is sometimes referred to as a "travel system" and is the initial configuration that you should try out with your baby.
Choose a stroller with two shoulder straps (ideally padded) and a five-point safety harness that fits your bub's body safely. Be sure to check for gaps or loose places where fingers could get caught. Also, make sure that the buckles are simple for older children to use. It's also worth considering whether you'd like a parent facing pram or not - it's perfect to keep an eye on your child and helping them feel reassured by the familiar sight of their parents.
Our parents who tested the product enjoyed the features of some prams, like the Graco Near2Me that allows you to raise your baby and lower it by pressing the button. This is a great way to stay connected to your baby, especially when they're sleeping. If you're in the market for a best travel pram system, be sure the frame is compatible with your chosen car capsule, as this will save you having to wake them up every time you're changing between pram, car and back again.
Convenience
When buying a pram newborn it is essential to consider your baby's transport needs. Some prams have an infant bassinet, carrycot or seat that reclines to an upright position. This is essential for your baby's development of the spine and breathing. It is important to check the other accessories included in the pram, for instance a footmuff and changing bag. These are essential for keeping your baby warm in the event of cold.
It's also worth noting that some prams and strollers can be transformed into travel systems permitting you to connect a car capsule with the frame using adaptors, to allow you to easily transfer your baby between the car and the double pushchair without having to wake them up. These are useful for those who have a hectic schedule or don't have the large enough car boot to accommodate pram capsules, but it's worth keeping in mind that your baby must be old enough and able to sit up independently before you can change between the car capsule and pram.
Another feature you may want to look out for is the possibility of raising and lowering your infant's seat from a low setting to a high setting, which keeps eye contact with them and keeps them close to you, something that our parent tester found was very useful for her 10-month old boy! An excellent example is the Graco Near2Me, that can be adjusted to lower the seat, allowing your baby to glide into your arms by pressing a button and stay in constant eye contact.
Make sure that your pram newborn has a solid base and wheels that can withstand potholes and bumps. Ensure that you are able to fold it down easily and make sure the safety harness is functional, fits comfortably and securely (five-point instead of three-point) and is adjustable as your child grows. You should also be able to put your shopping bags and changing bags inside the basket beneath (although be aware that putting on too much weight can cause it to tip over). If you're not sure what model to choose, try some different models at your local retailer.
