GreenPower partnered with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems, which will enable fleets to move to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We were able to test drive the EV9 on a local highway for several hours, and found it easy to drive and comfortable to drive over long distances. The EV9 is able to suppress wind and road noise while driving along the highway. It is smooth on bumps and ruts. The car's acceleration is surprisingly quick, and it has adjustable regenerative brakes that permit "one-pedal driving" simply by releasing the accelerator.
The EV9 offers a great range and can be recharged within three hours or Mobility power less at home, or using any commercial charger. The driver can select from two operating modes - eco mode and sport mode. The eco mode prioritizes the cruise control and torque while the sport mode is designed to maximize speed and handling. Both are a lot of fun to drive and offer an unique experience for those who have not driven an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, green mobility scooters GreenPower has several other e-vehicle offerings including a multi-purpose all-electric mini bus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used for executive shuttles, microtransit and transit vanpools, buses, or paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower produces around 10 EV Star buses per month for Jacksonville Transit Authority. The Jacksonville Transit Authority is replacing their older diesel vehicles fleet with 100 all-green power electric mobility scooter cars. With the Biden Administration planning to electrify school buses nationwide, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet demand. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant, and ADA certified. This makes them eligible for federal transit grants.
