A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
A crib for bed will allow you to keep your baby close during the night without the need to get out of bed. The breathable fabric allows you to easily see your baby and they are easy to lower when you require an early feeding.
Some also double up as a moses basket, too.
What is a bedside cot?
A 4-in-1 bedside crib crib (also called a bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small infant cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep in a safe environment with you. This is a form of co-sleeping that is safe and doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing and can help you build a bond with your baby's new arrival.
They usually come with a side that can be raised, so you can easily reach your newborn throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly beneficial for mothers who are recovering from an op. Many of them are foldable or portable which means you can use them to travel or as an interim solution for babies that aren't yet ready to transition to a larger crib.
Find a crib that has a breathable mattress, and an extra-safe cover that will keep your baby safe from staining. You may also want to purchase baby-safe items such as an infant blanket or a teether.
If you are seeking a long-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that allow you to transform them into a toddler bed or cot bedside when the time is appropriate. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition smoother. Some have a removable top section that transforms into an infant bed, and some can be used as an ordinary or high-rise adult bed. This is a good choice for families that are planning on frequent travel or transferring between bedrooms at night. You should also consider how big your bedroom is to ensure you can fit the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an adjustable riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Known for their high-quality baby products English brand Joie has stepped into the world of cribs for bedside use with the Roomie Glide. The idea behind the product is to allow parents to bond with their babies whilst sleeping together, without sharing a bed. This co-sleeper has features that help make bonding between parents enjoyable, safe and easy.
A smooth rocking motion can be activated by pressing a button. This can soothe baby into sleep with a gentle beat that doesn't disrupt their natural sleeping routine. This is great for toddlers or older babies who are having trouble settling down. It can also aid with digestive issues such as reflux and colic.
The crib can also be fixed to the side of the bed with an attachment strap and clip. This makes the crib stable and secure which allows you to rest soundly without worrying that your baby might roll off into the middle. The rounded cocoon shape comes with softly padded sides and two mesh windows on both ends to allow for plenty of air flow whilst making sure your baby is safe.
The mattress included is comfortable and firm and includes a washable cover. The aluminum frame is lightweight, making the crib extremely mobile and easy to put together. The four lockable rubber-covered wheels ensure that the crib will not leave marks on your floors and are easy to move. The crib is easy to clean thanks to the fabric that wipes clean and can be easily packed in a bag for long-term stays.
The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air
Designed to be a safe next-to-me crib from birth to six months old, this top model comes with rocking bars as well as castors for ease of movement. The deluxe airflow mattresses provide a comfortable sleeping surface, while ventilation panels help keep your baby cool. There are 6 different height settings, including an incline setting that can help with reflux and congestion.
The Tutti Bambini COZee Air crib comes with a removable fabric and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than some bedside cribs that are messy to clean. It also has an upper bar that can be easily adjusted to feed at night without having to fumble with zips in the dark.
Anna discovered that the CoZee could be a safe, cozy sleeping place for her infant. She loved that it didn't rock like other models, so it didn't wake her up at night while she was trying to comfort her baby for feeds. She also loved that the side lowered down so that she didn't have to reach out over her partner to pull the baby for feedings at night.
The CoZee comes in charcoal or oak and is a chic option for any bedroom. It's more an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs that we've tested, which can appear quite utilitarian. It is also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carrying case that allows you to take it with you on vacation or even when you move house. The only additional items you'll need to buy are a fitted waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. There are helpful step-by-step instructions and photos to assist you in putting it together as you open the box and making it a one-person task should you need to.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to help parents feel more connected to their baby bedside crib while they sleep. It adjusts upwards and downwards and slides through three positions to fit next to the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room, to ensure that your baby is close to the parent's side. The breathable mesh siding allows air to circulate through and lets you glance at your baby. You can also store more pajamas and other supplies in the large storage basket under.
Unlike some other smaller bedside cribs, the Iora folds flat and comes with a travel bag to allow it to be taken wherever. Our mum testers were able to move it from room to room, and believed it was a great size for a bedside cot, not too big or small. The large storage basket is great to store bedding and nappies.
This is an excellent choice for parents looking to co-sleep but don't want to share their own beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as back problems or arthritis. Our mum testers love the convenience of being able to access their child in the Iora and that it comes with an optional reflux incline to help alleviate gas.
Our moms love that it follows NICE guidelines. They recommend placing an infant in a Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets, pillows etc. The mattress is also firm and comfortable for the baby and sheets are readily available. It isn't as light as the other smaller bedside cribs, though and if you're looking for something lighter and easier to move around, consider one of the alternatives on our list.
