What is a bedside crib?

A bedside crib (also called a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small baby cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep comfortably next to you. It's a method of safe co-sleeping that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing and can help you build a bond with your new arrival.

These cots have an end that can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to comfort and feed them. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from a c-section. Some are also mobile or foldable, which means you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleeping solution for infants who aren't yet ready to move to a full-sized cot.

When shopping for a crib to sleep in Choose a crib with a comfortable mattress and a cover to shield your infant from staining. You'll also want to pick up some baby-safe add-ons such as a blanket and a cuddly toy.

If you're looking for a long-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that allow you to transform them into a cot, or a toddler bed at the time of need. This is great for extending their life and making the transition smoother. Some have a removable top section that converts into a bassinet, and some can be used on either the regular or high-rise adult bed. This is an excellent choice for families who intend to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms at night. Consider the dimensions of your bedroom to make sure you can fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs have a riser that can be added to create an incline for babies with reflux.

This is an excellent choice for parents who are looking to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but don't wish to share their beds or whose partner may be suffering from mobility issues, such as back problems or arthritis. Our mom testers loved that they could easily access their child while in the Iora and that it included an optional reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.
