What is a bedside crib?

A bedside crib, also known as a bassinet, or co-sleeper is a baby cot that is attached to an adult bed. This allows your baby to sleep with you in a safe environment. This is a type of co-sleeping in a safe manner that doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) similar to bedsharing and can help you bond with your new arrival.

They usually come with a side that can be lowered, so you can easily reach your newborn throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is especially useful for mothers who are recovering from a c-section. Many of them are portable or foldable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleep solution for newborns who aren't quite ready to move to a larger cot.

Look for a crib with a breathable mattress, and a protective cover that will keep your baby safe from staining. You might also want to purchase baby-safe items such as a blanket or teether.

If you're looking for a longer-term option, some cribs come with conversion kits that allow you to turn them into a cot or toddler bed when the time comes. This is great for extending their life and making the transition more seamless. Some come with a removable section at the top that can be turned into an infant bed. Others can be used with either a standard adult bed or a high-rise bed. This is an excellent choice for families that plan to travel frequently or change between bedrooms at night. It is also important to consider the size of your room to ensure that you can squeeze the crib in comfortably. A lot of cribs have an adjustable riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.

The Joie Roomie Glide

They are known for their high-end baby products for babies, the English brand Joie has stepped into the world of bedside crib to cot cribs with the Roomie Glide. This co-sleeper was designed to help parents bond and sleep side-by-side with their babies without sharing the same bed. It's loaded with features that make bonding between parent and baby safe, simple, and fun.

A smooth, steady rocking motion could be activated by pressing a button. This gentle rhythm will help to soothe your baby without disrupting their natural sleep patterns. This is great for toddlers and older babies who are struggling to settle. It can aid in digestion problems such as reflux and colic.

The crib can be locked in place once the rocking is finished to stop it from moving and can also be secured to the bed's side by a strap and clip attachment. This makes it stable and secure, allowing you to get a good night's sleep without having to worry about your baby rolling off into the middle of the room. The round shape of the cocoon features soft padding on the sides as well as double mesh windows at both ends. This allows for airflow while keeping your baby safe.

The included mattress is comfortable and firm and comes with a washable cover. The lightweight aluminium frame makes the crib very lightweight and easy to set up. The four wheels that lock are covered in rubber to ensure the crib won't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. It is easy to clean using wipeable woven fabrics and is easy to put in a backpack, making it perfect for long-term absences from home.

The airflow mattresses are deluxe and provide a comfortable sleeping surface, while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are 6 different height settings, including an incline setting to help with reflux and congestion.

Contrary to some cribs that are placed on the bed that can be a nightmare to clean due to their constant stream of dribble and snot The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air has a wipe-clean liner and fabric that can be removed to wash in the machine. Plus, it has a top bar that can be easily lowered for feeding at night without having to fiddle with zips in the dark.

Anna discovered that the CoZee was a comfortable and safe place to sleep for her baby. She liked that it didn't move like other models, which meant she didn't wake up at night while trying to soothe her baby during feedings. She also liked that the side of the chair could be lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner in order to lift the child out for nighttime feedings.

The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It's more of an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs that we've tested, which can appear rather utilitarian. It's also fairly light at just 11kg and comes with a carrying case so you can carry it with you on holiday or if you're moving house. You'll need an extra waterproof sheet and safety strap to sleep with your partner. The instructions and pictures are simple to follow when you first open the box.

The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to help parents feel more connected to their baby while they sleep. It adjusts up and down and moves through three slide positions to be placed next to the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room, to ensure that your baby is close at hand. The mesh siding allows air to flow through, and allows you to quickly see your baby. You can also store any extra pajamas or items in the large basket beneath.

Unlike some other smaller bedside crib options, the Iora folds flat and comes with a carry-on bag which allows it to be taken wherever. It was easy to move from room to space, and our mum testers felt it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. They also loved the large storage basket, perfect for storing nappies or bedding.

This is a great choice for parents who wish to sleep together, but don't wish to share their bed. If one of the parents has mobility issues such as arthritis or back pain. Our mom testers are thrilled with the convenience of being able to access their baby in the Iora and that it has an optional reflux incline to aid in reducing gas.

Our moms appreciate the fact that the mattress is in line with NICE guidelines that state to put the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). They also state that the mattress is comfortable and firm for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as other smaller cribs on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier for you to move, you can choose another alternative.
