A Small Double Buggy That's Easy to Push One-Handed and Carry Up and Down Stairs

If you're looking for a light double pushchairs stroller that's easy to push with one hand, and then climb and descend stairs, this is the one.

It features a pair of fixed seats and offers up to 30 seating options (including triple!). Both seats are UPF 50+ canopies with peekaboo windows.

Size

The Joovy Kooper X2 is a side-by-side double stroller which can seat two children with a weight of up to 50 pounds each. Its seats are larger bigger than those of other double strollers that are lightweight and the canopy has spacious SPF 50 sunshades, with peekaboo windows. Other important features include one-parent cup holders and a large, self-standing bin that can hold up 25 pounds; swing-away bars for children to climb into and out of their seats and the front wheels that swivel lock to allow for better maneuverability on rough terrain. This is a great option for suburban and urban families. It is also newborn-ready with the double set which includes an infant wedgie that can be used to lie flat in a position.

Weight

The weight of double tandem pushchair buggies will determine its ability to push. A lighter buggy is easier to lift and carry, but might not have enough suspension to withstand bumps and uneven terrain.

Be sure to check the specifications of each model carefully before purchasing. Certain double buggies come with an upper limit on the weight of the seats and others have an overall frame limit. Some models fold with the seats removed to make them even smaller and lighter this can be beneficial if storage space is at the limit.

Tri-fold doubles are usually the lightest of models, since they only require one hand to lift the top and lower sections. They are also a bit smaller than buggies with side-by-side sides and can be accessed through the majority of doors. The iCandy Geo 3 is one of the lightest tri-fold doubles on the market. It can comfortably accommodate twins or a toddler and a baby.

Tandem buggies are initially a single to double stroller pushchair but come with adapters that allow you to add a carrycot, a second seat or car seat which makes them a great option for growing families. Some models, like the iCandy Orange, offer over 30 seating configurations, meaning they can adapt to your family until a third child. They tend to be heavier than tri-fold doubles, but they're often easier to maneuver up and down kerbs thanks to the weight being more evenly distributed.

Folding

The most compact double buggies fold up easily in just a few seconds. This feature is well-loved by our Lab experts because it allows them to fit the buggies into the back of their cars and save space when not being used. The Joovy Kooper X2 for example comes with straps that can be pulled up on each seat and then the whole thing folds down. Even our most experienced testers could do this tri-fold with just one hand.

The light Delta Children LX Side by Side is a good alternative for a small double buggie. Its lightweight weight is a plus however, it also has some great features such as large pop-out canopies that have SPF 50 and peekaboo windows, swing-away bars to help youngsters climb in and out of the seats and reclined seating and leg rests designed for younger children.

Manoeuvrability

When picking a compact double stroller, you need to take into account its maneuverability. This is a good indicator of how easy it is for both children to ride in the buggy. Certain pushchairs, like the iCandy Orange with its 'cinema seating' (where the back seat is elevated) are better at this than others.

Narrow tandem buggies can be effective in this regard as can side-byside designs. These buggies can be a bit longer and may be difficult to maneuver through doors.

The UPPAbaby Vista 2 is an excellent example, as it's a relatively compact pushchair that allows two seats to be added, and the most important thing is the 'piggyback' board which can carry a third child.

Other models with three wheels such as the phil&teds Dot are also incredibly agile, especially with its clever 'dot kit' that turns it into an inline buggie. It offers two seating options for children of different ages, and the front seat can be rotated so that it faces the parents for more intimate bonding. It comes with an enormous storage basket that is easy to fold. It is a great option for growing families!

Comfort

With compact tandem strollers or versatile buggies that can be used side-by-side parents can keep an eye on both kids at the park, grocery store or wherever else. These lightweight doubles are able to accommodate two children up to 50 lbs each. They also come with a pop-out canopy that can be extended far enough to offer real shade. The doubles also feature one cupholder for each parent and a reversible cupholder on the seatback. They also come with a large underseat storage basket.

Add the phil&teds Double Kit to your dot buggy if you are just beginning to build a growing household. It transforms it into a double stroller that is ideal for toddlers and infants alike. The innovative 3-wheel design gives the best double strollers maneuverability and a simple kerb pop, while the sling seat is an excellent newborn-friendly option that will allow for a perfect face-to-face bonding. You can easily swap out the seat with an infant car adapter once your children grow older. With a premium rain cover and travel bag, you're ready to go on your next adventure!
