The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, increasing the base stats of the item level upgrade or providing additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player needs to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.
Items with weak bases, like rings, can be upgraded into more robust bases. Items with strong bases, such as eth Titans have little change in their stats.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons, trinkets, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus, or additional effect, when the equipment is in use. They can be bought from vendors, or found as loot by enemies, or gotten from missions and chests. Certain upgrades also have cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before you can upgrade.
To upgrade a weapon or piece of armor, the user must select it, and then click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. The preview will appear on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected upgrade statistics will be as well as the necessary element or material required to make that happen.
There are three types of universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Leveling
Path of Exile's upgrade process differs from previous versions in several important ways. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can only be upgraded a set number of times before being "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level however the materials required aren't as high.
