A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
A crib for bed can help you keep your baby close to you at night without needing to get up. The breathable fabric allows you to see your baby easily and they are simple to lower when you require an early feeding.
Some also double up as a moses basket, too.
What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet or co-sleeper is a baby cot attached to your adult bed. This allows your child to sleep next to you in safety. It is a safe method of co-sleeping, which doesn't increase the risk of SIDS, like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with the newborn baby.
The cots come with one side that can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to comfort and feed them. This is especially useful for mothers recovering from an op. Many are also portable or foldable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a sleeping solution for newborns who aren't ready to transition into a cot that is full size.
When shopping for a crib to sleep in, look for a model with a comfortable mattress and a cover to shield your baby from stains. You should also buy baby-safe items such as a blanket, a teether and a soft toy.
If you are looking for a longer-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that let you convert them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is right. This is a great way to extend their life span and making the transition easier. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be turned into the bassinet. Some can be used in conjunction with an adult bed that is standard or a high-rise model. This is a great option for families who are planning on frequent travel or switching between bedrooms during the night. Take into consideration the size of your bedroom to ensure you be able to fit in the crib comfortably. A lot of cribs have risers that can be added to create an incline for babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Famous for their high-end baby products for babies, the English brand Joie has stepped into the world of cribs that are bedside with the Roomie Glide. Designed to help parents bond with their babies whilst sleeping together without sharing a bed this co-sleeper comes with features that help make bonding between parents enjoyable, safe and easy.
One of the main features is a smooth rocking motion that can be activated at the push of the button. This gentle rhythm will help soothe your baby to sleep without disturbing their natural sleeping patterns. This is ideal for older toddlers or babies who have difficulty settling down. It can also assist with digestive issues such as reflux and colic.
The crib can be locked into its place after the rocking bedside crib has been finished to stop it from moving and can also be secured to the side of your bed with clips and straps. This makes the crib stable and secure, allowing you to sleep peacefully, without having to worry that your baby will roll off into the middle. The rounded shape of the cocoon features soft padded side panels and double mesh windows on both ends. This allows for airflow while ensuring your baby's safety.
The mattress included is soft and comfortable and comes with an easily removable cover. The aluminium frame is light and lightweight, making the crib extremely portable and easy to assemble. The four lockable rubber-covered wheels ensure that the crib will not leave marks on your flooring and is easy to move. The crib is easy to clean thanks to the wipeable woven fabric and can be easily packed in a bag for overnight stays.
The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air
This superior model is designed to be a safe, baby-sitter from birth until 6 months. It comes with bars that rock to make it easy to move and castors. The airflow mattress is a premium model that provides an ideal sleeping surface and the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are also 6 different height settings and an incline option to help with reflux and congestion.
Unlike some bedside cribs that can be difficult to clean due to their constant stream of dribble and snot The Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir comes with a wipe-clean lining and fabric that can be removed to wash in the machine. It also has an upper bar that can be easily lowered for feeding at night without having to fumble with zips in the dark.
Anna found the CoZee to be a safe and comfortable sleeping space for her baby. She liked that it didn't move like other models so she wasn't disturbed at night while trying to comfort her child for feedings. She also enjoyed that the side was lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner to carry the baby for feedings at night.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It's more modern than other cribs we've seen that are usually utilitarian. It's also quite light at just 11kg, and comes with a carry case which allows you to take it away on holidays or when you move home. The only additional items you'll need to buy are a waterproof cover and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and illustrations are easy to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to make parents feel more connected to their infant while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and moves through three slide positions to fit next to the bed of the parent or in the corner of the room so that the baby is always within arm's reach. The mesh siding allows air to flow through and allows you to see your baby easily. And you can stow extra pajamas and supplies in the large storage basket beneath.
The Iora is a bedside cots crib that is smaller and folds flat. It also comes with a travel bag so it can be carried anywhere. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room, and believed it was a great size for a bedside cot, not too big or small. The large storage basket is great for storing extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great option for parents looking to co-sleep, but do not wish to share their beds or whose partner may be prone to mobility issues, such as arthritis or back issues. Our mom testers are thrilled with the convenience of being able to access their child in the Iora, and that it has an optional reflux incline to aid in reducing gas.
Our moms are also thrilled that it meets NICE guidelines which state that you should place the baby in a crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys, pillows, etc). The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are readily available. It isn't as light as the other smaller bedside cots cribs, though and if you're looking for something lighter and easier to move around, consider one of the other options in our list.
