Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or running. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight areas.
For a smooth ride, go for a pram with air-filled tyres. Look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. However, they are prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with an repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
Recent figures have been released that show that the three-wheeled buggy - that noughties symbol of more money than sanity is in a decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider variety of terrain, yet still look swanky and being easy to push.
The basic idea is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with rough ground and bumpy pavements. With larger wheels front and back also makes it much easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and strollers 3 wheels year old and found that it coped well with cobbles, grass rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt solid to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require occasionally pumping) offer built-in suspension that was very comfortable for my kids.
The shape and size of the seat is another aspect to consider. You'll want it to be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline to allow them to lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat that lets your child face you, whereas others only allow a parent-facing one.
The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road or walking in muddy areas. It can be used as a one-person unit from the beginning and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers until age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness and large padded seat unit. Storage options are also good, with a large basket, zip pockets on the hood and an extra pouch at the rear of seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels will give your buggy greater stability when driving over rough terrain. This is ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also allow you to move the pushchair around tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies - more information, have rotating front wheels that help you navigate around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be driven. This can also help in the event that you hit the roots of a tree or stray road, as the front wheel can be lifted up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres, which allows them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they're prone to punctures and you'll need a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.
Some of our favourite 3 wheel pushchair off road-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that according to her "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles" and are able to go up or down kerbs. They also have suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps extremely effectively".
The downside of having larger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This is a problem when you're using it for a jogger or you need to be able to get through doors that are narrow when out and out and about. Fortunately, many models come with small folding options that let you take off the front wheels to create more compact storage.
Easy to maneuver
One of the main benefits to a three wheel buggy is that it can be much easier to maneuver especially with a child in tow. The way in which they are constructed means that the front wheels turn at a quick pace and are extremely easy to maneuver which makes them perfect for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler, and she said: "The Terrain is a delight to navigate in rough terrain. The front swivel wheel was especially useful." I was also awed by the way it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on uneven terrain."
The only drawback to this incredible mobility is that the 3 wheeler buggies wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean that it will be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to be aware of especially if you live in a city area. If this is the case, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better choice for you.

This creates a lower center of gravity for your infant at the right height and also delivers an excellent weight distribution, making it easier to pop over curbs (it is much easier to push a stroller up and over than you may think). MFM reviewer Kath said it's excellent on cobbles and grass. It's also a great option for running with its air-filled tyres and locking swivel wheels.
This bumper bar is sure to make heads turn wherever it's used. It has a classy and fashionable look.
