Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The stats of an item are improved by upgrading it, which is also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment provides a linear increase in any stat.
Players can recycle six items at a time to gain a gauge for the upgraded component of each item. The cost of recycling items scales depending on their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
An upgrade for an item in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can boost the power of your weapons and armor. This can be achieved through various methods such as using upgrade components as well as increasing an item's mark level or rarity. A lot of items can be reforged in order to increase their value.
Upgradeable items are available all over the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be made by players. Upgrade components are the main method to upgrade equipment. These are the items that can slot into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and many require a certain level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components provide specific bonuses while others provide a general bonus.
There are several types of upgrade components in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. The universal upgrades, such as gemstones and enchantments can be placed on any equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs can only be found in gathering tools. They offer a range of bonuses, ranging from boosting the speed at which an item gathers to providing additional crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, simply select it from your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will appear on the right hand side of the screen. It will display the expected stats after the upgrade. If you don't possess enough of either the upgrade button will show as Blocked.
The upper-right corner displays the amount of upgrade components required to create an item. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the level of the upgrade and its rarity, however it can be reduced by many different methods, including purchasing upgrades at a merchant or trading them with other players.
Most weapons can be upgraded with an upgrade to a prefix like an insignia or rune. Many can be upgraded using a suffix upgrade. These upgrades include an adjective in the name of the item like "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs are a way to convey information via visuals. They move to catch the viewer's attention and spur curiosity in the brain. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language, making them more effective in conveying an inter-linguistic message. Glyphs can also trigger a feeling of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.
Each glyph can increase the value of a stat by a specific amount. This is shown on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This isn't the exact amount at which glyphs can improve a stat, but the maximum value by which it can increase a stat. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the item you're in awe of it.
The majority of upgrade items components that are installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary upgrades and equipment. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use but it hasn't been incorporated to gear yet, you can transfer the item to another piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu in the Glyphs Panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
If you are looking to remove a glyph from a piece of you must salvage it using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will destroy the item within which it is placed however, you can salvage the upgraded item using the glyph and its shards, therefore it should not be considered as a loss.
The addition of a glyph to an item may cause it to be unstable, and the shards of the glyph will disappear from your inventory once you take it down. You can also place a glyph on your equipment to give it a bonus. For example the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly instead of all at one time. This is useful for those who take a lot damage from their enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens allow players to change the affixes of their equipment and weapons, and can be found in a variety of ways, including in mistery boxes or as a rare drop from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Each reroll gives the player an unspecified affix, which is usually better than what they had before. Reroll tokens can also be a good option to reroll stats on weapons that can be upgraded to increase damage or perks.
Rerolled items are not listed in the menu of item upgrades (aiwins.wiki official), but they are still able to be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button which alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to recycle. Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its level gauge. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its own level, so higher-level items are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.
Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll Weapon Traits for upgraded units. Rerolls will roll a % chance to determine a weapon's trait. If it rolls higher, then the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower the weapon is left as it was. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolls are a good option to upgrade an item, however, players should be aware that it could reduce the total ilvl of the weapon due to the number of rerolls required to increase it to the final level. This effect of lowering is most effective on ring items and Diadems that do not have any competing ilvl-raising options.
Players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive. It would be fairer to allow players to pay for it using money or food items that would allow them to make changes to their builds without having to spend excessive amounts of time. However, paid rerolls are not something the developers are planning to incorporate at this point in the game's development. Instead, they plan to add a race change potion in the future.
Leveling
There are a variety of ways to upgrade an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount which boosts the value of an upgrade for any stat. The second is to boost the upgrade effect which increases the damage or heal of a specific stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. When this is done the new item will retain its iLevel, but will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded type of item.
It is crucial to keep in mind that upgrades can be random. Most of the time, a higher roll is determined by glyphs. However there are instances where a higher or more special roll could occur. Additionally, the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the item type which means that if you upgrade a unique or rare item upgrading to an exceptional item type it has a chance to gain an iLevel that is higher.
Upgrades to items can be costly, particularly when you're upgrading a piece of gear from the normal to the legendary track. The price will depend on the item's base iLevel and the number of upgrade levels it has. Some upgrade tracks also require crests to be completed in order to move on to the next level.
If you're fortunate the upgraded item could reach the maximum level on its upgrade track and gain an additional effect. This will give you a substantial boost in the upgrade value of the item. The bonus effect changes with each upgrade level. In general the effect of upgrading is increased by a factor of +3.
The iLevel will also change according to the upgrade path and its base level. For instance an item that has been upgraded from a rare or unique item to an exceptional one is likely to gain the enhanced defense of the new base item upgrading.
