1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots that vacuum and mop also have Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot automatic vacuum cleaner/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot hoover and mop vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
