Both robots are good at picking up surface dirt on floors and carpets, and they can easily navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart vacuum cleaner maps of your home that assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we tested. It can be stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between different surfaces, like rug and hardwood.
iRobot suggests cleaning the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it might encounter. It is also recommended to keep the filters and dust bin clear to avoid becoming clogged. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin, which removes major maintenance sources and reduces recurring cost.
We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and to vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. We were able, once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." That's still enough run time to get rid of the majority of a typical-sized home but not long enough to cover every spot (though the second time around usually can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better on low-pile floor carpet.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a basic robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have lots of money to spend on the latest model of robot. It could pick up all kinds of debris and sizes during our testing and often went over the same area several times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front end helps it reach into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice addition.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models such as our top picks and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often will run out of battery before making it back to its base.
