What is a bedside crib?

A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet or co-sleeper, is a small crib for babies that is attached to your adult bed. This allows your newborn to sleep right next to you in safety. Many are also portable or foldable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleep option for babies who aren't yet ready to move to a full-sized cot.

The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to help parents feel closer to their infant while they sleep. It adjusts upwards and downwards and moves through three slide positions to fit next to the bed of the parent or in the corner of the room, to ensure that your baby is within arm's reach. In contrast to other bedside cot used crib options The Iora can be folded flat and comes with a carry-on bag which allows it to be taken wherever. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room, and believed that it was a suitable size for a small bedside cot, and not too big or small. They also liked the large storage basket perfect for storing nappies or other bedding items.

This is a great option for parents who want to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but do not want to share their own beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as arthritis or back issues. Our mum testers loved the ease with which they could access their baby while in the Iora and that it included an optional reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.

Our mums are also thrilled that the mattress is in line with NICE guidelines, which are to place the infant in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). They also claim that the mattress is comfortable and firm for baby and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as the other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier for you to move around, consider a different alternative.
