The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention. It will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Be sure to check your robot's brushes for hair tangled and large particles, and wash them when needed. Some models can also automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic hoovers vacuums that we have test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other top iRobot models (including the top pick), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer better cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on different floors and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the amount of dirt they are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
