What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib, also known as a bassinet, or co-sleeper is a baby cot that is attached to an adult bed. This allows your newborn to sleep next to you in peace. This is a safe form of co-sleeping and doesn't increase the risk of SIDS, like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with the newborn baby.
The cots usually come with a side that can be raised, so you can easily reach your baby throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from the c-section. Many are portable or foldable making them suitable for travel and as an interim solution for babies who aren't ready to transition into a crib that is large enough.
Look for a crib with a breathable mattress, and an extra-safe cover that will shield your baby from stains. You may also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like a blanket or teether.
If you are seeking a long-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that let you transform them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is right. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition smoother. Some have a removable section at the top that can be turned into a bassinet. Some can be used with either a regular adult bed or a high-rise one. This is an excellent choice for families that intend to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms in the evening. You should also consider the size of your bedroom to ensure that you can squeeze the crib comfortably. A lot of cribs have an incline that can be added to create an incline for babies with reflux.

Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfortable place to sleep for her baby. She loved the fact that it didn't roll like other models, which meant it didn't wake her up at night while she was trying to comfort her baby for feeds. She also loved that the sides of the chair was lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner in order to lift the child for nighttime feedings.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and was a stylish addition to the bedroom. It's more of an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs we've tested, which can appear rather utilitarian. It's also fairly light at just 11kg, and comes with a carrying case which allows you to take it with you on holiday or if you're moving home. The only extras you need to buy are a waterproof cover and a co-sleeping safety strap. There are step-by-step directions and photos to help you put it together when you first open the box and making it a single-person job if needed.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to help parents feel connected with their baby as they sleep. It adjusts upwards and downwards and can be moved through three slide positions to be placed next to the bed of the parent or in the corner of the room, to ensure that your baby is close at hand. The mesh siding allows air to flow through and allows you to see your baby easily. You can also store extra pajamas or supplies in the large basket underneath.
In contrast to other bedside cribs Iora is a standout among other bedside cot mattress cribs. Iora folds flat and comes with a travel bag which allows it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room, and our mum testers believed it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. They also loved the large storage basket, perfect for storing nappies or bedding.
This is a great option for parents who wish to sleep together, but don't wish to share their bed. Also, if one of the partners has mobility issues like arthritis or back pain. Our mums who tested it loved that they could easily access their child in the Iora and that it came with an adjustable reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.
Our moms are also thrilled that it meets NICE guidelines, which are to place the infant in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets, pillows, etc). The mattress is also firm and comfortable for babies, and sheets are easily available. It's not as light as the other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier for you to move, choose another option.
