Three Wheeled Buggies
Whether you're looking for a buggy run around in or a stroller that can be used for neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight areas.
If you're looking for an easy ride in your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. They are prone, however to punctures. Make sure you have a repair set.
Frame made of sturdy material
The latest figures have been released revealing that the three-wheeled vehicle - a symbol of the noughties of more money than sanity is in a decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers that can handle a wider range of terrain, while still looking elegant and easy to push.
The bigger the wheels are, the more your buggy will be able to deal with bumpy and uneven pavements. With larger wheels front and back makes it much easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and a 3 wheel baby buggy year old and found that it was able to handle cobbles, grass, rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said "it is solid to push and very solid when you're on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasionally pumping) have suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my children.
The shape and size of the seat is a further factor to think about. The seat should be large enough for your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer a full lie-flat option while others only allow for an adult facing one.
A great choice for tackling off-road or muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy can be used as a single from birth, and then expands to take two children when your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth until age 4. It comes with a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a big cushioned seat. Storage options are also great, with a large basket and zip pockets on the hood and an attractive pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Wheels with a larger diameter
Larger wheels mean your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - perfect for buggies that are off-road. They also allow you to navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be pushed. This is also helpful in the event that you hit an unintentional tree root or curb, since the front wheel will lift up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.
Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres which allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures, so you'll need an repair kit, spare inner tube and pump in your bag.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and the Venicci Carbo lux are some of our favourite 3-wheelers. Both of these buggies come with larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and can easily go up and down kerbs. They also have suspension that according to Kath "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".
Buggies with larger wheels may be quite wide and may struggle to fit in tight spaces. This is an issue if you plan to use it for jogging or you need to get through doorways that are narrow when out and about. Most models come with compact folding options that permit you to take off the front wheels and store them more compactly.
Easy to maneuver
A three-wheeled buggy is more maneuverable for children. The way they are built means that the front wheels spin at a quick pace and are really maneuverable which makes them perfect for tricky terrain such as parks, cobbles and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain, with the swivel front wheel being especially helpful. I was also impressed with how well it coped with the kerbs, particularly when using the brake operated by hand. I found it extremely steady when I was driving downhill or over uneven ground."
The only drawback to this great maneuverability is that the 3 wheel reversible stroller wheeled pushchair (king-wifi.win) wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean that it can be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to consider if you live in a city region. If this is a problem then a 4-wheeler might be better for you.
