Three Wheeled Buggies
If you're looking for a buggy to run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight spaces.
If you are looking for a smooth ride on your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels with swivel. However, they are more prone to punctures, so be prepared with an repair kit.
Sturdy frame
New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, the symbol of the noughties that were more expensive than common sense, are in a steep decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that are able to be more versatile in terrain, while still looking stylish and easy to push.
The bigger the wheels are, the better your buggy will cope with bumpy and uneven pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back also makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn as well as a 3 wheel Stroller for newborn year old and found it coped well with cobbles, grass rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath wrote "it feels sturdy to push and extremely solid when going over difficult terrain. The tyres, that are inflated and require to be pumped regularly they have suspension built-in. This was very comfortable for my kids.
Another thing to take into consideration is the seat size and shape. You will want it to be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort and you will also require it to recline so that they can lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer a full lie-flat option while others only allow for a parent facing one.
A great option for those who want to tackle off-road or muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy can be used as a single from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth to age 4, and comes with a bumper and raincover, a new 5-point harness, and a big padded seat. The storage options are excellent too, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets inside the hood and a handy pouch on the back of the seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels will give your buggy greater stability when driving on rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for off-road buggies. Additionally, they make it easier to manoeuvre the pushchair in tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to aid you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This can also help in the event that you hit an unintentional tree root or kerb as the front wheel will lift up to keep you from hitting it.
A lot of lightweight 3 wheel buggy wheel pushchairs have air-filled tyres. This means they can be used on many different terrains and are much more flexible than 4-wheeler. They are also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures so you'll need to have a repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo lux are among our top 3 wheel running buggy-wheelers. These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that she claims "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles", and can easily go up or down kerbs. They also have a suspension system that, in her words "smoothes out bumps very effectively".
The downside of having larger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite broad and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This is an issue especially if you're using it to an exercise bike or to be able to get through doorways that are narrow when you're out and out and about. Luckily, most models have small folding options that let you remove the front wheels to make compact storage.
Easy to maneuver
One of the major advantages to a three-wheeled buggy is that it is much more maneuverable, especially with a child in the back. They are designed so that the front wheels rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to move, making them ideal for difficult terrain like cobblestones, parks as well as bumpy roads and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a best 3 wheel pushchair-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain, with the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed by how well it coped with bumps, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. It was very stable going downhill or on uneven terrain."
The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel all terrain buggy wheel buggy might make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind when you live in an urban area. If this is an issue then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better choice for you.
Bumper bar
Bumper bars are the perfect way to protect your child from scrapes and bumps when out and out and about. These bumper bars are easy to install and will make your child feel safe and secure out and out and about.
Designed to complement the sleek lines of the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar has a soft and padded surface that offers an ideal place for your child to hang on to when walking. The robust construction and durable design will ensure that your child is comfortable strolling around the town without fear of falling or leaning forward.
The fabric sling sits snugly within the frame and not on top of the modular seat. This creates a lower centre of gravity for your newborn at the ideal height, and also delivers an excellent weight distribution, making it easier to push over curbs (it is much easier to push a stroller up and down than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it was ideal on cobbles and grass. It's also a great alternative for running, thanks to its air-filled tyres and the lockable swivel wheel.
With a sophisticated and stylish design this bumper bar is sure to draw attention wherever you go. Available in a variety of finishes and colours that can be customized to fit your style. It has a simple, quick-release mechanism that makes it simple to remove and install the bumper bar as necessary. Furthermore the bar is easy to clean, and is made of durable materials that are easy to wipe down. This makes it a great option for families that want a safe and stylish accessory for their stroller.
Comfort
A 3 wheel umbrella stroller-wheel buggy is a great off-road vehicle for maneuverability and performance. With perfect design and weight distribution, this kind of buggy is able to turn on a dime and be easy to steer with just one hand. All Mountain Buggies pass the same rigorous stability standards and tests as 4-wheel buggies.
The Sport's clever design places the fabric sling seat within the frame, not sitting on top as modular seats. This means it has lower center of gravity and makes it more comfortable to push, has a less weighty curb-pop (you don't have to put in as much effort to lift the buggy's front end over a curb) and provides better balance and stability. With its massive rear wheels measuring 16 inches and lockable swivel front wheels and air filled tyres that require only occasional pumping to give you a bump free ride over rough terrain and a smoother, more comfortable jog.
As the only pushchair in our collection with a seat for parents that can also be used as the form of a car seat or carrycot, you can future proof your family and have fun on every adventure from day dot and for years to come in the footprint of a single buggy!
And that's not the only reason to adore this buggy - our MFM reviewer Kath loved how spacious it is as well. There's a large easily accessible basket that's surprisingly roomy for such a small buggy and there's an easy-to-use pouch that zips up at the rear of the seat unit, and even two smaller mesh pockets inside the hood to keep your keys and phone.
