A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
If you want to keep your baby as close as you can at night without getting out of the bed, a crib for bed is the perfect solution. The fabric is breathable and allows you to easily see your baby and they are simple to lower when you need to feed your baby at 3am.
Some also double up as a moses basket, too.
What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also called bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small infant cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your baby bedside sleeper to sleep comfortably next to you. It is a safe method of co-sleeping and doesn't increase your risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It can also help you bond with the new baby.
The cots usually have a side that can be raised, so you can easily reach your infant at night to feed and comforting. This is especially useful for mums recovering from an op. Many of them are mobile or foldable, which means you can bring them along on trips and use them as a sleeping option for babies who aren't quite ready to move to a larger cot.
Look for a crib with a breathable mattress, and an extra-safe cover that will keep your baby safe from staining. You might also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like an infant blanket or a teether.
If you're looking for a longer-term alternative, some cribs are equipped with conversion kits that allow you to turn them into a cot or a toddler bed when the time comes. This is great for extending their life and making the transition smoother. Some have a removable top section that transforms into a bassinet, while others can be used on either a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is a good choice for families who are planning on frequent travel or transferring between bedrooms at night. It is also important to consider the size of your bedroom to ensure you can fit the crib comfortably. A lot of cribs have an riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Known for their high-quality baby products English brand Joie has stepped into the world of cribs for bedside crib with wheels use with the Roomie Glide. The co-sleeper was created to help parents bond and sleep side-by-side with their babies without sharing one bed. It's packed with features that help make bonding between parent and baby secure, easy, and fun.
One of the most important features is a smooth, rocking motion that can be activated with the press of an button. It can help soothe baby to sleep with a gentle rhythm that doesn't disturb their natural sleeping routine. This is ideal for toddlers or older babies who struggle to settle down. It can also help with digestive issues like colic and reflux.
The crib can also be affixed to the side of the bed by a strap and clip attachment. This makes it very solid and secure, allowing you to get a good night's sleep without having to worry about your little one falling off into the middle of the room. The cocoon's rounded shape features softly padded sides and two mesh windows at both ends to allow for ample air flow while protecting your baby.
The included mattress is comfortable and firm. It is covered in a washable material. The crib is easy to put together and take down thanks to an aluminum frame that is lightweight and makes it very portable. The four lockable rubber-covered wheels ensure that the crib will not leave marks on your flooring and are easy to move. It is easy to clean with cloths that wipe clean and is simple to tote in a backpack, which makes it ideal for overnight absences from home.
The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air
Designed to be a safe crib that can be used as a next-to-me crib from birth until six months old, this top model features rocking bars and castors for ease of movement. The airflow mattresses are deluxe and provide an ideal sleeping surface and ventilation panels help keep your baby cool. There are also 6 different height settings and an incline option that could help with reflux and congestion.
The Tutti Bambini COZee Air crib comes with a removable fabric and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it easier to clean than wooden bedside cot cribs that can be a mess to clean. It also comes with a top bar which can be easily lowered to accommodate nighttime feedings without having to mess with zips.
Anna discovered the CoZee to provide a safe, comfortable sleeping space for her infant. She was pleased that it didn't move like other models so she wasn't woken up at night while trying to soothe her child to feed. She also liked that the side of the chair was lowered so she didn't have to reach over her partner to lift the child to feed them at night.
The CoZee is available in charcoal and oak and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It looks more like an expensive piece of furniture than many of the other cribs that we've tested, which can appear quite utilitarian. It's also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carrying case which allows you to take it away on holidays or when you move home. The only additional items you'll require are a fitted waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and pictures are easy to follow once you open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to help parents feel more connected to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and shifted through three different slide positions, to fit under the parent's bed or in the corner, to ensure that the infant is always in reach. The mesh siding is breathable, allowing air to circulate through and gives you a quick glance at your baby. You can also store additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket under.
The Iora is a bedside baby bed crib that is smaller and folds flat. It also comes with a travel cot bedside crib case which allows it to be taken anywhere. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room and felt that it was a suitable size for a bedside cot, not too big or too small. The large storage basket is perfect for storing extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great option for parents who are looking to co-sleep, but don't want to share their own beds or whose partner may have mobility issues, like arthritis or back issues. Our mom testers are thrilled with the ease with which they can access their baby in the Iora and that it has an adjustable reflux incline that can help alleviate gas.
Our mums appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. They recommend placing the baby in a Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets, pillows etc. The mattress is also firm and comfortable for babies, and sheets are readily available. It's not as light as some of the cribs that are smaller on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier to move around, consider a different alternative.
