A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
If you want to keep baby as close as you can at night, but not have to leave bed, a bedside cosleeper crib is the ideal solution. The breathable fabric lets you easily see your baby and they're incredibly easy to lower for those bleary-eyed 3am feedings.
Some double as moses' baskets.
What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib travel cot crib (also known as a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small baby crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep safely next to you. This is a type of safe co-sleeping that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing and can help you bond with your new arrival.
The cots come with an end that can be lowered to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is especially helpful for mothers who are recovering from a csection. Many of them are portable or foldable so you can use them for trips and as an interim solution for babies who aren't ready to move to a larger crib.
Find a crib that has an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an appropriate cover to protect your baby from staining. You should also buy baby-safe items like a blanket, teether and cuddly toys.
If you're looking for a more long-term option, some cribs come with conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a cot, or a toddler bed at the time of need. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition smoother. Some come with a removable section at the top that can be transformed into a bassinet. Other models can be used with either an adult bed that is standard or a high-rise one. This is an excellent choice for families who intend to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms at night. You should also think about how big your bedroom is to ensure that you can fit the crib in comfortably. A lot of cribs have a riser which can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Famous for their high-end baby bedside sleeper products English brand Joie has entered the world of cribs for bedside use with the Roomie Glide. The idea behind the product is to help parents bond with their children while sleeping side by side without sharing a bed. This co-sleeper comes with features that make parent-baby bonding enjoyable, safe and easy.
A gentle rocking motion can be activated by pressing a button. This gentle rhythm can soothe your baby to sleep without disturbing their natural sleeping patterns. This is ideal for older babies and toddlers who struggle to settle. It can help with digestive issues like colic and reflux.
The crib can also be affixed to the side of the bed by clips and straps. This makes it extremely stable and secure, allowing you to enjoy a great night's rest without having to worry about your child rolling off into the middle of the room. The rounded cocoon shape comes with softly padded sides and two mesh windows at both ends to allow plenty of airflow while protecting your baby.
The mattress is soft and firm and is covered in a washable material. The crib is simple to put together and take down thanks to the lightweight aluminum frame that makes it very portable. The four lockable rubber-covered wheels ensure that the crib will not leave marks on your flooring and are easy to move. The crib is easy to clean due to the wipeable woven fabric and is able to be easily tucked away in bags for long-term stays.
The Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir
It is designed to be a secure crib that can be used as a next-to-me crib from birth until six months old, this premium model has rocking bars and castors to allow for ease of movement. Its deluxe airflow mattress offers an ideal sleeping surface and ventilation panels ensure your baby is kept cool. There are six different height settings including an incline setting that can help with reflux and congestion.
The Tutti Bambini COZee air crib has a fabric that can be removed and wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than bedside cribs which can create a mess to clean. Plus, it has a top bar that is easily lowered to feed at night without having to fumble with zips in the dark.
Anna found that the CoZee was a safe and comfortable sleeping space for her infant. She was pleased that it didn't move like other models, so she wasn't woken up at night while trying to soothe her child for feedings. She also loved that the side was lowered so she didn't need to reach out over her partner to carry the baby to feed her at night.
The CoZee is available in oak or charcoal and is a chic option for any bedroom. It's more stylish than the other cribs we've tested, which are often quite utilitarian. It's also quite light at 11kg, and comes with a carrying case, so you can take it with you on vacation or when moving house. You'll need an waterproof sheet and a safety strap for sleeping together. There are step-by-step directions and pictures to guide you through the process when first opening the box which makes it a one-person job if needed.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to help parents feel more connected to their infant while they sleep. It can be adjusted upwards and downwards, and moved through three different slide positions, to fit beside the parent's bed or in the corner so the baby is always in reach. The mesh siding allows air to flow through, and allows you to quickly see your baby. You can also store more pajamas and other supplies in the large storage basket underneath.
As opposed to other bedside crib to cot cribs, the Iora can be folded flat and comes with a carry-on bag which allows it to be carried anywhere. It was easy to move from room to room and our mom testers thought it was the right size for a bedside cot used crib. The large storage basket is perfect to store extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great option for parents looking to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but don't want to share their own beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as back problems or arthritis. Our mums who tested it loved that they could easily access their baby in the Iora and that it included an adjustable reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.
Our mothers appreciate the fact that it meets NICE guidelines which state that you should place the infant in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). The mattress is also firm and comfortable for the baby and sheets are easily available. It's not as light as other smaller cribs on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier for you to move, choose another option.
