Despite its limitations, the DCT can be a valuable instrument to study the relationship between prosody and information structure in non-native speakers. This characteristic can be utilized to study the effect of prosody in various cultural contexts.
In the field of linguistics the DCT has become one of the most significant instruments for analyzing learners' communication behaviors. First, the MQ data were analysed to identify the participants' rational choices. The data was classified according to Ishihara (2010)'s definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, the selections were compared with their linguistic performance in DCTs to determine whether they were a reflection of pragmatic resistance or not. Interviewees were also required to explain why they chose an atypical behavior in certain situations.
The results of the MQs and DCTs were then analyzed using descriptive statistics and z-tests. It was found that the CLKs frequently used phrases like "sorry" and "thank you." They were asked to complete the DCTs in their native language and complete the MQs in either their L1 or L2. The results showed that CLKs, on average, did not follow the pragmatic norms of native speakers in more than 40 percent of their responses. They did this even when they were able to produce patterns that were similar to natives. They were also aware of their pragmatic resistance. They attributed their choice to learner-internal factors such as their identities and personalities as well as multilingual identities.
